After the horse swallows, Stops Colic is quickly absorbed through the lining of the horse’s stomach and enters the bloodstream. These ingredients work with the horse’s body where fluids are drawn into the intestinal tract which soften and break apart the impaction. Then the ionic solution stimulates the bowel muscle motility (peristalsis) is returned to normal.
WHAT IT DOES:
Stops Colic vs NSAIDs – works opposite of the NSAIDS drugs (Banamine or Bute). NSAIDs drugs perform a few actions. Two of them are 1. Pain Relief and 2. Relax Muscle. Stops Colic is not a pain reliever or muscle relaxant. No pain medications are needed since relief starts in effect in 10 – 30 minutes. Gut sounds (peristalsis) returns within 30 minutes. Horses start back to eating within 1 – 2 hours. Why give your horse un-necessary pain medications.
It is absorbed through the stomach lining into the blood stream and instantly starts breaking down cohesive molecules holding fecal matter and fecal impactions together into a pudding-like consistency. It is not a muscle relaxant, so smooth muscles can keep doing their job of allowing the normal peristalsis or bowel motility to move materials towards elimination. Stops Colic can actually treat a bout of impaction colic.
BUT! Don’t think that it’s just a laxative – we have documented cases that Stops Colic treats chronic diarrhea cases – overnight results!!! Horses that have had diarrhea for months will experience a complete turn-around. It goes in and works with the digestive tract to stabilize it to normal.
Just wanted to let you know about our experience. On October 20, 2010 we had just finished our ranch sorting practice and we were checking on the horses in our barn . A 2 yr. old filly we have in training was down in her stall. She didn’t seem to be able to get up and was sweating and seemed to be distressed. We got her to her feet and listened for gut sounds she didn’t have any. We gave it to her and just like the label says within 10 minutes she had gut sounds was walking easily and the color was back in her gums. Awesome product!!!! Thank you very much. We won’t be without it in our barn.
Sincerely, Tee and Jacque Woolman

After the horse swallows; Stops Colic is quickly absorbed through the lining of the horse’s stomach and enters the bloodstream. Colic is the #1 killer of horses. Stops Colic is a natural product that “Can Do No Harm” to be given orally; the horse just swallows.
Each part of the Stops Colic formula works until the effect of colic is repaired and the bout is stopped:
WHAT IT DOES
Immediately goes to work within minutes; peristalsis starts back within 10 – 30 minutes. YOU WILL ACTUALLY HEAR bowel sounds return within 30 minutes on both sides of the horse’s abdomen. Many horses have actually been documented to have returned to competition in the arena, show ring, or race track only hours after the bout has ended!
What Is the Difference between “Normal” & “Abnormal” Colic?
A “normal bout of colic” is considered an impaction, light sand, gas or spasmodic.
An “abnormal bout of colic” is horse with bowels that are twisted, torsion, knotted, ruptured or blocked by foreign object (like eating plastic bag, etc.) excessive sand, gravel, stones, tumors or infected bowels. Stops Colic cannot help with these.
NOTICE: After administering the Stops Colic product, you will hear returning and/or stronger bowel sounds, within 10 – 30 minutes on both sides, if this is a normal bout of colic. Your horse will also appear to be in better condition. If no sounds return and your horse does not appear better then your horse is having an ABNORMAL BOUT OF COLIC and requires a vet. Our product cannot treat bowels are twisted, torsion, knotted, ruptured, blocked by objects, excessive sand, gravel, stones or tumors, are experiencing heavy spasms or infected. Stops Colic cannot always help a horse who remains symptomatic 1-2 days after a vet diagnosed and treated them conventionally for an impaction.
Horse’s digestive tract is designed to graze on grass all day. They get the nutrition of supple grass, which is high in water content. This would easily travel through the curves of the digestive tract through peristalsis. Peristalsis is the wave like movement of the intestines that makes the chewed food travel to the other end and out. Also the surrounding smooth muscles help with food travel.
To save time and pasture space, man has placed horses in stalls, pens, and paddocks where grass is not available. Man needed then to create a simple way to take the place of the grass. So they came up with the idea of grains mixed together to make sweet feed or also crushed up grains called pellets. By man-made intervention we designed concentrated feeds to replace the nutrition of fresh growing grass. This feed is fed twice a day so we would not have to keep horses in a big pasture.
To replace the grass roughage we give hay (dry grass). Horses’ digestive tracts are designed for them to graze on grass all day. Because of the man made feed, they are now consuming approximate 1 – 6 lbs of concentrated feed in 30 minutes or less. After they eat their concentrated feed, they then munch on their dry hay. That one big meal is now being pushed through the digestive tract with the help of saliva. Horses’ digestive tracts were designed to graze slowly throughout the whole day. No wonder there is so many impaction colics!
Weather Change – The horses will drink 20 – 25 gallons (or more) of water on a warm day and 10 – 12 gallons on a cool day. During Spring we will have cold fronts that come in. It may be very warm one day and then overnight, the temperature drops 20 degrees. On the day of the sudden cold snap, the horse does not seem to be as thirsty as the day before. By not drinking adequate amounts of water, there is less moisture in their digestive tract and the food they have eaten does not move along adequately for the normal digestion process. The gut peristalsis cannot move the food efficiently. Often times, it slows down to a stand still; the peristalses can no longer push down the highly concentrated food. This is one cause of an impaction.
Riding Your Horse for Long Periods without Offering Water – Always keep a water bucket with you in the trailer. Your horse needs to be offered water whenever possible during the day. If you are showing or riding always offer water every hour.
Horses Need Fresh Clean Feed and Hay – Colic may be also caused by moldy or bad horse feed. Horses cannot throw up! Once the food has been chewed and swallowed, it needs to go through the entire digestive tract and then out the other end. Horses kept in large pastures will smell of the molded hay and feed and not eat it. But, when kept penned up and that’s the only thing to eat; they will eat it, just to survive.
Worm Regularly to Prevent Horse Colic– Colic may also be caused by worming, when horses are not on regular schedule. If a horses is wormed with Ivermectin that kills many different types of worms, all the dead worms that were in the digestive tract start being moved out of the intestine just like their grains and hay. If all the worms are traveling together in one lump, this can cause impaction colic. If a horse has not been wormed in a long time, start with a wormer that kills just some types of worms and then finish up a few weeks later with one that also kills the full spectrum of different worm species. Worm horses every 3 months with wormer paste, this can be purchased from a feed store. Squirt accurate amount between cheek and teeth or towards back of mouth. Some wormer medications are apple flavored and taste good.
A typical first symptom of colic is that horses will not eat their feed. If you have a horse that will not eat, you have a very sick horse. He may have colic or something else may be wrong.
A sign of colic is that your horse will be lying down. Pressing their belly against the ground helps relieve the pain. Just like if you hold your stomach with your hands to help relieve pain if you have a stomachache. If you make them stand up and then they start lying down again, this is an indication that they are in pain.
If your horse usually stands quietly when he is tied, but then you notice him walking back and forth or digging; this may be a sign of colic; because as soon as you unsaddle and take him back to the pen, he will lie down.
Horses will look back towards their belly or bite/kick at their belly.
Sometimes they will stretch out which would appear they are trying to urinate, but then walk on. This is also a sign of colic.
Why Treatment Needs to be FAST: When your horse has colic, by the time you see the signs of colic, the progression is already under way. You may have little time to spare. Because of the impaction (clog) in the intestine; as more and more food travels from the front part of the intestine to the impaction site, the impaction starts to build up more and more. Think of a car wreck on a major highway with ice on the road. One car crashes up ahead, but there are also cars traveling behind it that also crash, one at a time until there is a big pile up. Now think of that in terms of a horse’s digestive tract. There is an impaction and then all the food in front of it is trying to travel down the digestive tract and out, but there is a pile up, the road is blocked. Since the intestinal tract is now engorged it finally ruptures, seeping out fecal matter into the cavity and blood stream. The horse may appear relieved at first that the pressure is gone, but then sepsis sets in. He will die shortly after rupture of the intestine occurs.
Stops Colic has shown remarkable resolution of colic feed impactions. Very simple to use. Just lift your horse’s head up and with the included open end syringe (like a wormer) squeeze in the horse’s mouth and watch him swallow the sweet tasting nectar. That’s all there is to it! You will hear gut sounds return or become stronger on both sides of abdomen within 10 to 30 minutes. 1 to 2 hours later, your horse should be back on feed. Use as your first defense. Keep this on the shelf at all times and take it with you if are traveling with your horse.
Back in April I did use Stops Colic on a lovely little connemara lesson pony we have. I followed directions, and she did not seem to be getting any relief. After an hour and a half, I called the vet. It took a half hour for the vet to arrive – and as soon as he got out of the truck, she seemed to fuly recover! He went ahead and checked all her vitals, which were all normal. I gave Dr. Rob McNeill the literature on Stops Colic to take back to the office and share with his colleagues.

We have had tremendous results with Stops Colic. We firmly believe in this product and will not be without a bottle of Stops Colic at the barn or in our trailer for our out-of -town shows. We have used it 6 times with all Great results. This is a must to have for any horse owner! -Staci Anderson-Diaz (known for her spectacular Roman Riding Presentations throughout the U.S.)
My name is Chris Rahn and I am the ranch manager for Cheley Colorado Camps, children’s summer camp with an average of 150 horses. We usually have 6-8 cases of colic each year and the closest veterinarian is about an hour drive away. I have now used Stops Colic formula 5 times and it has been a success each time. This is such a great product because it not only works, it is easy to store, use and administer. I feel comfortable and confident having this product available for myself and my staff to use and recommend it to anyone who owns or works with horses. Thanks for your wonderful product. -Chris Rahn, Ranch Manager, Cheley Colorado Camps
This product is a lifesaver! I ordered 3 more bottles so I can keep one in the barn and one in each trailer. I used this on my daughter’s barrel mare that was down and it was all I could do to keep her on her feet. She was up and had good gut sounds within 20 minutes of dosing her. I also used it on a yearling that seemed a little colicky, and he bounced right back. Last night I had one of our geldings lay down in his stall as I was feeding showing signs of colic. He had good gut sounds on one side but very faint on the other. All I had was the half bottle that was left from the yearling, I decided to give him that and hope it was enough to help. Within 15 minutes he was up and gut sounds strong on both sides! I am so happy I found this product. It works!!!! About the horse Stops Colic Saved: Yes, my daughter barrel races. She ran the pro circuit really hard in 2008 and 2009 on Jonetta Fame was ranked #3 in the pro circuit in 2008 when her horse had a reaction to a leg gel and had to have surgery onher legs from the burns it caused. She was out 7 months and came back and placed in two pro rodeos then the third run back she won the Charmayne James Invitational barrel race in Vegas. She got hurt in that race and it was career ending for her. Now Jonetta is a very young RETIRED barrel horse and a brood mare. Krystal is running some young horses now trying to get back to where she was. One of the young ones that coliced the other night was one of her prospects for the pro circuit. Anyway – that is the story on Jonetta Fame and Krystal Jones – they are very well known in the pro circuit – and everyone LOVES Jonetta! -Paulette Jones, Mission, TX
It was Mothers day Sunday! We hit our favorite mountain trail right outside of town that we had been on too many times to count. My Mother’s Day ride was great, until we got home and unloaded when I noticed my horse wasn’t himself. He refused to graze and went straight to rolling, pawing and kicking his belly. He was getting violent about doing it, too. I ask my husband to bring me a halter and my horse jumped up and walked over to me and put his head flat on my chest. I knew he was in pain and he was asking me to help. He had never coliced in the Four years of owning him. With in 45 minutes of administering Stops Colic he stopped all symptoms and even relaxed to the point of ‘letting it all hang out’. That’s when I knew he was okay and kept an eye on him throughout the night. I was prepared to called the vet at any minute and I was ready to walk him all Sunday night. I didn’t have to call a vet and my horse is back to himself. My Mother’s Day had a happy ending thanks to Stops Colic!
I have used Stops Colic product on 3 separate horses. I am certain that our percheron-thoroughbred cross would have died without the Stops Colic treatment that we gave him. Surgery is not an option for any of our horses so Pine Cove will always have it on hand. No other treatment was used or needed. - Tim Alderson at Pine Cove Christian Camps
The Gypsy Horses are such a quiet calm breed they rarely have bouts of colic. In spite of that, one of my main breeding stallions started doing the rolling and uncomfortable thing. OH _____ ! I knew what was coming. “Where did I put that bottle of Stops Colic ?!” Found it and quickly gave it to him. Almost immediately he quit exhibiting symptoms. I kept sticking my head out for several hours to make sure. He was fine ! I immediately ordered more to keep on hand now that I have seen that it definitely works. I’m Linda Brown, owner of one of the longest running and larger breeding ranches of Gypsy Horses in the United States. I own over 30 of these magical creatures and my foundation breeding stock was imported from England directly from the Romani nomadic Gypsy people. After establishing what I hoped was the finest representations of the breed, we went on to win more accolades repeatedly at the Gypsy Horse World Shows at the Fort Worth Stock Show than any other breeder in the world. Residing on this ranch is the top producing stallion in the world and the top three producing mares in the world under all judges at this prestigious show year after year. Progeny from this ranch have won in everything from driving, halter, Western Pleasure, English Pleasure, trail/obstacle, and more. After 17 years of raising several breeds of horses you can assume I have seen it all as far as new techniques, medicines, tack, etc. Although I was curious about Stops Colic, I certainly wasn’t going to just blindly assume it works. I did buy a bottle just to keep around assuming I really wouldn’t need it. I was wrong. One of those incredible Gypsy Horse stallions in this breeding program began his “drop and roll discomfort” as I was heading to bed. I instantly recognized what would be a night of no sleep for me. I remembered about the bottle of Stops Colic ( but couldn’t immediately remember where I had put it ). I located it and gave it to him, frankly not really having high expectations. I was wrong again. In 17 years I have never seen such a hassle free and quick response to colic. I am happy to report that he is well and ready to continue producing those award winning foals. And I have ordered more Stops Colic and now put it exactly where I can find it quickly. www.GypsyHorsesInTexas.com
Buddy is a twenty-three year old gelding used for team roping; heading or heeling and is very quick out of the roping box. My son, Scott and I have roped on him since he was five years old and we have won money, saddles and other prizes on Buddy all over South Texas. During the last annual Medina County Team Roping, the fastest time of the entire roping was done on Buddy. Buddy has always been prone to colic, but always recovered. On April 23 he had a severe impaction and no gut sound. After a rush trip to Alamo Vet, Dr. Arguelles stated he was so impacted there was little hope of surviving or ever being useful again. After three days of IV fluids and oil the impaction broke. After several days he came home but was not feeling very well. This trip to the Vet clinic and treatment was repeated several times during the next month with little hope of him living. I happened to see an ad in The Horse Gazette for Stops Colic. It sounded too good to be true, but I had nothing to lose so I called Reba and put in an order. She was kind enough to overnight it to me. When I went to the barn Buddy was standing there completely listless, not interested in anything. Normally he would greet me every time I showed up at the barn. I gave him a bottle of the Stops Colic and within an hour he was livelier than he had been in a month. By the next morning he was eating and ready to go out to the pasture with the other horses. Today he is running around the pasture just like before and is putting on weight. He lost at least four hundred pounds during his illness. Stops Colic gave me back my horse and I won’t be without it from now on. – Bill Currie, June 6, 2011.
